A lot of my conversations with couples start with how their wedding planning is going and what they have planned and what their vision is. Most of my couples say ” We are doing something a little different.” or “This isn’t going to be your typical wedding.”, “We really want to have a great time.” To which my reply is usually “Awesome!”
There are absolutely no rules about what you have to do for your wedding. You do not have to fit your wedding into a box. It can be whatever you like it to be. If you want Kazoos to walk you down the isle, you want yard games, you want to dye your hair red, you want to go putt putt golfing on your wedding day, you want to go snowboarding, you want to wear a snoopy tie (or no tie at all)…. it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it is authentically you. Now I am not saying that you can’t do those traditional things that are important to you… the point is that if it’s not important to you, you don’t have to do it, and if it is important to you – do it!
Sometimes the best weddings are the ones that don’t fit into a mold. I remember them because the couple infused themselves into everything it was. There is no book on weddings that will give you the perfect wedding because the perfect wedding is perfect for you. What someone else calls perfect may be your worst nightmare. So be you, have fun, do what is important to you, and remember that there are no rules.
Brian and Kate made all the rules from their wedding. They got married where they wanted to get married. It was important to them. Their guests kazooed “Here Comes the Bride” as Kate walked down the isle , and all of their details were handmade or off Etsy (including some very cool flowers). What strikes me about this photo is that Brian and Kate are some of the most carefree people I know. These books were just added as props (both Theatre people) for fun. 😉
