Meet Weemala Hair and Makeup | Breckenridge Hair and Makeup Artist

What is your specialty and why do you love it? 

I am the owner of Weemala hair and makeup, based in Breckenridge, and travel throughout our mountain towns to get our brides and their bridal party ready. I am a makeup artist and I absolutely love what I do!  The process of getting to meet our brides and creating a look that not only suits their personality but also is cohesive to the overall look of their wedding is one of the parts of this work that I love. Being able to make someone’s wedding day special by making them feel beautiful both inside and out is so rewarding. Makeup has such transformative powers, making someone feel and look their best on such an important day is something my team and I don’t take for granted. A wedding day is one of the most photographed days of most people’s lives. 

 What is your favorite part of a wedding?

 I love getting to meet our brides, their friends and family. We get to meet so many amazing women I can honestly say I walk away from every wedding having learned a little more. We arrive the morning of the wedding to get the ladies ready. This is my favorite time of a wedding day. I love seeing the morning/afternoon festivities and the overall happiness of the day. As we get older there are very few times when we get to have all of our favorite ladies in a place together getting ready, chatting, reminiscing, laughing. 

How did you get into the wedding business?

I started out as an art major. I studied Illustration and then I went on to get a degree in art education. While I was finishing my degree in Boston I found a love for makeup.  I went on to study makeup in LA  and just loved it. No two faces are the same, you are always getting to be creative. I also love how much the makeup industry has changed throughout the 12 years I have been doing this. The products keep getting better and the creativity coming from other MUA’s is so inspiring

What is your passion outside of your work?

I feel lucky to say I LOVE what I do. My other passions are live music, the outdoors, travel, and getting to be with my husband and dog! Living in the mountains we get to be outside all the time. I love to hike, trail run, snowboard, xcountry ski, kayak, camp, and just enjoy our amazing mountain lifestyle. My husband and I love to see live music, Colorado has some of the most amazing venues and brings in unparalleled talent. Traveling has always been big on our list we try to get away on an adventure at least once a year in between visiting family, friends, and seeing music.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

 I feel like I am an open book, just ask me anything 🙂  Maybe some of the things people don’t know about me is that I am from a big family I am one of six, so family time is always a bit crazy…in the best possible way. I have done five marathons, NYC was one of my favorites! I love to read nonfiction. I traveled to Africa to work at a nonprofit giving micro-financing loans to AIDS orphaned youth. This is one thing I am most proud of. I love to cook and sling some tasty cocktails. I am part Cherokee Indian.
