What is your specialty and why do you love it?
Our specialty is our Pink Champagne cake and cupcake. Why do we love this? Gently flavored with just a hint of strawberry, this cake will be a hit with even the ardent vanilla fans, but is elegant and celebratory with its addition of champagne right in the batter, adding to its light and airy texture. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else in Denver!
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
As a baker/decorator, the best part is watching a couple’s personalities be expressed through dessert. Flavor, design, all of it speaks loads about a personality, and when two people are combining their tastes, personality, and thoughts- its fun to watch! Especially when there is a honeymoon cake involved like what we offer here at The Makery because you sometimes see two sides to the same story. I love it. That one can give you a glimpse of childlike joy between the couple as they pick the flavors without thinking of guests. So cute. At the actual wedding, I love that very moment when the couple first sees each other. Always look upfront. Everyone always looks back to see who is walking down the aisle- take a glance at that first smile of the groom or bride standing upfront though- the smile there is never a disappointment.
How did you get into the wedding business?
My sister actually started the whole thing. When she got married, I was actually working as a molecular biologist believe it or not. Baking was just a hobby to express creativity. She had me make her cake though and I so thoroughly enjoyed the process that I just couldn’t let it go. It took over. The next thing I knew, The Makery was my new life!
What is your passion outside of your work?
Well, obviously I love my world of desserts, so I am involved in a lot of the Denver pastry and sugar arts world. My family though is a big one for me. I have an amazing husband and two beautiful children who keep me on my toes.
What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Besides my past in Molecular Biology!? I am not sure what else shocks more than that…Most people assume this is what I have always done.
