Kristen & Matt | Ten Mile Station Breckenridge Wedding

Oh Kristen and Matt. What a day this was. I start by saying that it almost never rains all day in Breckenridge. Like never. Usually storms roll in and out and people postpone ceremonies by half hours if they need too. When I arrived to photograph their wedding day it was socked in. 100% cloudy and drizzly. Everything you don’t hope for on your wedding day. Of course, like all our couples they really wanted an outside ceremony. I mean they were at Ten Mile Station after all and if you know anything about Ten Mile, the views are just simply stunning. Kristen had seen this coming all week. We texted back and forth. I am always praying to the weather gods for my couple’s weddings. So, I could tell she was kind of bothered by it so I attempted to calm my bride’s nerve’s by telling her it would be okay. Whatever happens the important part is her and Matt were getting married today. The weather would be fine. Etc. Etc.

We had small breaks in the heavier rain and managed to still do the Dad’s first look, Kristen and Matt’s first look, and bridal party photos. My eyes were on my radar app on my phone as the storms rolled through and we would pop in and out for photos. We ended up flipping cocktail hour and having cocktail hour first as we continued to wait out the rain in hopes of a ceremony outside. I remember chatting with Kristen’s dad at some point. Sad for his little girl that they may have to have their ceremony inside when he just wanted what she wanted. So sweet. Just about when we were getting ready to give up I noticed a break in the weather which I estimated to be in about ten minutes. I’ve been wrong before (I mean I am not a weather person but our weather people in Colorado have to have the safest jobs anywhere because our weather is impossible to predict), but the staff at Ten Mile and all the vendors in the house, including me and the planner started drying off chairs as soon as it looked like it may let up a bit. Covering the chairs with umbrellas to keep them as dry as possible. Well it worked. The sun started coming out and the planner lined everyone up. The parents and the bridal party started walking down the isle and everyone (who had had a few drinks at this point) cheered and were hooting and hollering. Such a fun spirit after the stress of the weather. They were able to finish their ceremony and even family photos outside as it just continued to get sunnier. Just as the sun set it started to rain again just in time for everyone to head inside. The joy carried throughout the night and everything was perfect. So much happiness and love! We especially loved Kristen and her dad dancing to “Take me out to the Ballgame” a song he would sing to her. Even though the day didn’t go exactly as planned it was perfect. Matt and Kristen’s connection to each other and their families was so incredible and humble to watch and capture. Matt and Kristen, thank you so much for sharing in your day. It was an absolute honor. I wish you both the very best in your adventures together.

XO
