Julia’s Deck, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Vail | Lindsay and JD

Mountaintops can be unpredictable places, even in late summer which is when Lindsay and JD got married on the Vail Wedding Deck. Fortunately, the weather was absolutely beautiful. It really felt like the perfect Colorado day, with luxuriously warm sunlight and a refreshingly cool breeze. In other words, it was the perfect weather for a wedding.

Lindsay and JD had their first look down in Vail, then rode the gondola up to the top of the mountain where we took a bit of time before the ceremony for photos of family, friends and the wedding party. Lindsay and her sisters also took a moment to remember her mother, whose ashes are scattered on the hillside surrounding the mountain. It meant a lot to Lindsay to be in the presence of her mother on her wedding day.

Their wedding ceremony took place just before sunset. Cowboy hats were scattered through the crowd. Both Lindsay and JD’s entrance was punctuated by the gentle jingle of spurs that were custom made by family members. Warm sunlight flooded the mountain valley behind them while they said their vows in front of the people who matter most to them. At the end of the ceremony, Lindsay and JD sealed their ceremony with a kiss… or at least I think they did (JD hid it from view with his hat). Kiss or no kiss, I can’t imagine a better way for them to start the next chapter of their lives than on a mountaintop with perfect weather, surrounded by those who they love.
