Every year I entered a shoot and share contest and my goal every year is simply to do better than I did the year before, after all the only artist you should compare yourself with is the artist you used to be. This year as a whole, I felt very proud of the submissions I put in. Shoot and Share is a community of photographers from all over the world. Here is what they say about their photo contest. “Why We Have the Photo Contest: The Photo Contest is a way to bring the community together and share what they love. We allow photographers from all over the world to share their work, and inspire others. By sharing our best shots, we can congratulate those who are doing an amazing job and encourage others to continue.”
This year there was 225,207 images submitted from 135 countries. The contest presents 4 photos from the same category. When you are voting there is no way to tell who took the photo, it is completely blind. You pick the one you like the best, it then moves on to another 4 photos from another category. I submitted to 10 categories including: Just the Bride, Details:All Dressed Up, Toddler/Preschoolers, Emotion/Excitement, Just the Guests, The Wedding Couple, Pets/Animals, Engagement, That Just Happened, and Details: Cake, Flowers, & Decor. I had 2 place in the top 100 of their category, 8 place in the top 10% (Several which placed in the top 5% although there is not an official badge for that), 12 place in the top 20, and another 8 place in the top 30%. Compared to last year which I had 1 in to top 100, 1 in the top 10%, and 7 in the top 30%. Although I submitted far fewer last year I placed higher overall. I am so thankful to my gorgeous couples for allowing me to even enter this competition. 🙂 Without further ado here are the results listed in the order they placed.

A rarity for me, I couldn’t help but submit this super cute photo of this little guy playing in the snow during one of the family sessions I shot last year. I typically only do family portrait sessions for past clients and referrals but it never hurts to ask. This little guy placed in the top 30% in the “Toddler/Preschoolers” category.
I learned a lot about the type of photos that do well in this competition throughout the voting of this contest. A lot of people are voting on their phones or tablets and it has to be clear in a little tiny image what is a great image. I feel very lucky to have done so well to have placed 30/50 of my images that I submitted and will hopefully do even better next year submitting images that are better suited for the contest. Thank you so much to all the people who voted and made this contest possible, especially my amazing clients for letting me do what I love so much. So excited to see where the 2016 season takes me.
