5 Reasons to Hire a Wedding Planner | Denver Wedding Planning | Denver Wedding Photographer

I attend 2-4 meetings or workshops a month to keep up with the ever changing world of photography and the wedding industry. Last week I had the pleasure of attending a Mile High Photographers forum in which the topic was Wedding Planners. Special thanks to Debbie from Save the Date Events, Heather from Table 6 Productions, Stacy from Alexan Events, and Angie from Sapphire Celebrations for leading our discussion. The more I think about last weeks meeting, the more I wanted to share why a bride should hire one of these amazing planners! So I started making a list.

1. Wedding planners save you money! This was honestly something I had never thought about before. I know how much easier they make my day as a photographer, but hadn’t thought about the cost benefit to the bride. Planners know almost everything there is to know about the vendors in their area; and while you spend some money on them up front; it is worth every penny. They have done this so many times that they know where the pitfalls are, and who the best vendor is for your individual situation. They know how to prioritize your budget so that you spend money on the things that are important to you.  Also, because they work with some vendors repeatedly, they may have negotiating power that the bride may not. Brides are not in the business of planning a wedding everyday, so how should they know how much of their budget they should allocate to catering, photography, flowers, cake etc.?  A planner is there to help you with your budget and knows the ins and outs of the industry.  Even if your budget is small, it’s worth it!

2. Wedding planners cut down on the stress of your day. We’re all human, we’re going to worry. Wedding planners can take a majority of that worry off your shoulders. There might be up to 22 vendors to coordinate on your day. A wedding planner can act as a go to person so all you have to think about is walking down the isle, saying I do, and having a great time. There are many variations on what a planner does from just the coordination or your day (which I recommend at the very least), to full wedding planning.  If there is a problem, they are there to help so the bride can enjoy her special day. A good wedding planner will pay attention to every detail; so leave the details to them!

3. Wedding planners understand your vision. Even if you know what you want, you may have Are you a control freak? I am. The biggest lesson I have had to learn while running my business is to outsource things so that I can spend time more time with my family. I outsource to professionals that I trust and know who match the overall vision of my business. The same holds true with a wedding. There are difficulties executing your vision or have a hard time getting it down on paper in a tangible form. If you hire a professional wedding planner, they will help you mold all of your ideas into one solid vision and help make it the day of your dreams. Make sure you interview a couple of planners to make sure you find someone who fits your personality. It is their job to understand and make the day your own, and they will pull it off flawlessly.

4.  A wedding planner can take stress off your relationships. This is one of the most important times in your life. Mom, sister, aunt, mother in-law and best friend all want to help, and they still can, but why not have an objective professional helping you out? I hear so many times from my brides who don’t have a planner; how ‘so and so’ might make them a crazy lady before it is all done. All ideas, needs, wants, etc. go through a planner and they can tell you if it’s a good idea or not. It’s their job and they’ve done this a lot. They also know how to deal with the family member or friend who wants to dictate your event.

5. A wedding planner saves time. An average wedding can take 200+ hours to plan.  With family and work commitments most of my brides who don’t hire wedding planners have a hard time finding the time to do the planning themselves. That’s not to say it won’t take some time; you will still have to meet with vendors, venues, pick colors, etc., but it will take a lot of the guesswork out of your planning.
